24/09/2011    Let's do it Romania – Cleaning Romania in one day

Saturday, September 24, 2011, there was the second edition of the campaign "Let's do it Romania – Cleaning the entire country in one day", which turned out to be the largest social involvement project in the country.
While last year DMHI joined this project timidly, this year we were more confident, and this drew more people to support us in the unfolding of the campaign. Thus we have managed to bring together a much larger number of DMHI employees and subcontractors, who came accompanied by their families and friends. In addition, at the initiative of some of our employees, the effort was joined by the youths of Destiny Mangalia, the children of the Gala Galaction school and other locals who share our concern for the environment.
They have all express the intention to attend, alongside DMHI, future volunteering actions. Under the principle of "the more the merrier", we have wholeheartedly welcomed their initiative and enthusiasm, and thus we have managed to form a much larger team of volunteers and cover large areas near Mangalia, namely: Olimp (forest and beach), Neptun – Popasul Caprioarelor and the Mangalia Island.
Together we have managed to collect some 450 sacks and 120 liters of waste. As in the previous year, we can take pride in the civic spirit shown by the DMHI employees, as citizens of Mangalia, and we hope to have fewer areas to clean next year.
National Cleaning Day has concluded, we thank all our colleagues and locals who attended this action, as well as those who supported us. We also thank the younglings, children from schools and high schools, who were accompanies by their teachers and parents, mostly DMHI employees.
All we have to do now is to MAINTAIN and not forget that social responsibility needs to become a lifestyle for us all!

On 15 April 2005 Daewoo–Mangalia announced, the signing with Hamburg Süd of the first series of (6) six 4,000 TEU container carriers, representing the then largest ever container carriers ever ordered from a shipyard in Romania and the Black Sea area.
DMHI and Hamburg Süd have agreed on 23 January 2007, to continue their cooperation by signing a new shipbuilding contract for a new series of Container carriers, the only major difference being that the latter vessels shall be larger than those contracted before.
The following is a table showing the main technical characteristics of the new projects concluded with Hamburg Süd, as well a short presentation of the German partner:

    22 / 01 / 2007    DMHI — A 10 year Presence in Romania

From the point of view of dimensions and value of the contract (about US$ 500m) this signing for five (5) new units of 4,710 TEU class container carriers apart from representing the largest vessels of their type ever ordered from the area, also represents a pleasant achievement on the occasion of 10 years of DMHI activity.
State-of-the-art technology, high production techniques and quality standards, continuous support from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME), in brief, a continuous preoccupation for excellence, is the best definition of the ten years Daewoo–Mangalia Heavy Industries S.A. (DMHI) has had in Romania so far from its establishment on 22 January 1997 as a joint venture company between DSME (Korea) and Mangalia 2nd of May Shipyard S.A. (Romania).
Furthermore, these seem to have been the very reasons why Hamburg Süd signed the new series of contracts with DMHI.
Since DMHI was established 10 years ago, the yard has delivered nearly 120 projects, from pontoons, floating docks and barges to container–ships, tankers, supply vessels and coasters. In late 2004, Daewoo–Mangalia Heavy Industries S.A. launched „Vision 5”, a management strategy plan, and set to increase its turn-over by US$ 500m over the coming five years and to become one of the „best shipyards in Europe”. In April 2005, DMHI achieved an orderbook in excess of US$ 1bn. At the end of 2006 DMHI sales volume was in the region of US$ 300m and the prospect for 2007 is to achieve sales of US$ 500m and to achieve the goal of „Vision 5” two years earlier than planned.

The month of January 2007 shall thus remain a milestone in the history of DMHI not only because DMHI succeeded, within its ten years of existence, to offer products of European and worldwide standards of quality, but also for the fact that by delivering in January 2007 the last „hull”–type project from its orderbook, ordered by German company J.J. Sietas, DMHI moves forward to a new stage in its development contracting only complete projects of large dimensions of the Panamax and Post–Panamax types.
The delivery period for the five (5) 4,710 TEU container carriers, contracted on 23 January 2007 with Hamburg Süd, is set from the end of August 2009 to the first half of July 2010.
